Which Subjects Do We Design Elearning and Videos For?

I’m often asked questions about our design work. A common initial query is: ‘What sort of subjects do you design elearning and videos for?’

The simple answer to this question is: anything and everything.

Irrespective of the format, we design for any subject area. We haven’t yet said no to a subject area!

In our world, we design for a variety of businesses. Each comes with its own product, services and learning goals. It’s the challenge of that variety that excites us. Were we given the same subject to design for different clients there’d be less excitement, less of a challenge and a restriction around our design ideas.

In designing for a diverse range of topics we show that we can handle subject areas that:

  • We have no prior knowledge of
  • Are complex to understand
  • Can be intellectually demanding
  • Are technical by nature

There have been common themes in our work. For example, we’ve designed lots of science and healthcare related courses and resources. But similar themes doesn’t mean uniformity of course design.

The groups of learners have been diverse, each with their own set of learning goals. So each design was different to meet those differing needs.

To give you an idea, here’s a summary of some of the subject areas we’ve designed videos and courses for:

  • Accounting
  • Anaesthetics
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Cyber security
  • Economics
  • End of Life care
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Health and safety
  • Health and social care
  • Marketing and other business related subjects
  • Operation and theoretical knowledge of oil and gas systems.
  • Physics
  • Primary Care
  • Project Management

At the start of a project we spend dedicated time getting to the heart of a subject area or your business message.

When designing an elearning course or video we do extra reading around the topic. We also have detailed discussions with a subject matter expert, asking lots of questions – the answers to which inform our course design.

For animated videos we work closely with the internal team. That ensures we’ve understood such things as brand values, marketing message and corporate mission. These will feed in to our animated video design work.

And for software demo videos, we get to know all the features and tasks of the software before we start scripting and designing the video.
